BRIEF DESCRIPTION A robust, stoloniferous grass up to 45 cm tall. The leaves form a dense mat that seldom reaches a height of more than 15 cm. USES Used for pasture, lawns and erosion control. KILLING T It has some tolerance to frost. GROWING PERIOD Perennial. COMMON NAMES Tropical carpet grass, Broad-leaf carpet grass, Savannah grass, Nodillo, Bes-chaitgras, Canamazo, Rumput pahit, Papahitan, Jukut pahit, Rumput parit, Kulape, Ya baimaln Ya-malaysia. FURTHER INF Scientific synonyms: Milium compressum, Paspalum platicaulon, Anatrophus compressus. Tropical carpet grass is native of America from southern United States to Brazil. The latitudinal range is between 27°N and S. It can become a troublesome weed. In Indonesia it can be found at elevations between sea level and 2300 m. Dry matter yields may be between 1-5 t/ha.
